March 24th, 2009: Introduction to Continuous Improvement
This is a course designed for organizations and/or employees that are in need of gaining further understanding and knowledge of Continuous Improvement (CI). CI is the management process where customer valued processes are constantly evaluated and improved in the light of efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility. CI utilizes feedback from the process and customer which are evaluated against organizational goals. The key concepts of CI are the self reflection process; the identification, reduction and elimination of suboptimal processes; and incremental, continuous steps, avoiding quantum leaps.
CI also includes more strategic elements based on deciding how to increase the value of the delivery process output to the customer and how much flexibility is valuable in the process to meet changing needs. Some successful implementations use the approach known as Kaizen.

March 31st, 2009: Introduction to Lean Manufacturing
This is a course designed to teach the basics of the Lean Manufacturing process. Lean is the set of tools that assist in the identification and steady elimination of waste. The implementation of Lean is focused on getting the right things, to the right place, at the right time, in the right quantity to achieve perfect work flow while minimizing waste and being flexible and able to change. As the elimination of waste is the goal of lean, the goal and focus of the company should become implementing Value-added activity.
All of these concepts have to be understood, appreciated, and embraced by the actual employees who build the products and therefore own the processes that deliver the value. The clear identification of non-value-added work, as distinct from wasted work, is critical to identifying the assumptions behind current work processes and to challenging them in due course.

April 7th, 2009: Root Cause Corrective Action, NADCAP Style
This class is designed for organizations and/or employees who wish to further their understanding of problem solving methods aimed at identifying the root causes of problems or events and implementing corrective actions towards them. By directing corrective measures at root causes, it increases the likelihood that problem recurrence will be minimized. This process begins with Root Cause Analysis (RCA). To be effective, RCA must be performed systematically, with conclusions and causes illustrated by documented evidence and it should be understood that there can be more than one root cause for any given problem.
The process for performing and documenting an RCA-based Corrective Action directs the corrective action at the root of the problem. The goal is to create effective solutions, not simply identify root causes. Root causes are secondary to the goal of prevention, and are only revealed after the decision of which solutions to implement is made. RCCA is often considered to be an iterative process, and is frequently viewed as a tool of continuous improvement.

April 14th, 2009: High Involvement Teamwork
In the competitive marketplace it is demanded that organizations do more with fewer resources. High performing teams can assist organizations in doing more with less. Teams that are highly involved in teamwork exhibit superior levels of performance and have greater organizational impact. High Involvement Teamwork happens when an organization’s team members understand their roles in the team process and actively work to support each other in that process.
This class is designed to teach employees how to recognize the basic foundations for effective teamwork. They will begin to engage with understanding as primary communication styles or your team members are identified. They will also develop plans to build better work relationships with team members.
